Poor Chan Prologue Alpha 0.2 Release!


Windows 64bit:
MEGA (Runs better, older computers can't run it)
Windows 32bit: MEGA (For older computers)
Mac OS: MEGA (Not fully supported*)
Linux: MEGA (Not fully supported*)
*I do not own a Mac or Linux myself so I can't bugtest these.*


What's been done:
-Improved on the customization
  -You can now add your own textures to use for the eyes (BMP, JPG, PNG).
   This is compatible with eye textures from artificial academy 2. ;)
   You are able to select different textures for each eye, left/right.
  -Added a proper color wheel, no more randomly clicking a button.
  -You are also able to select different colors for each eye, or hair parts.
 
-Added regular dialogue (finishes up basic prologue storyline).
  -The player character will use different animations at different parts of the dialogue.
  -There is a choice in this dialogue (the latter choice is intended to have an effect in future builds.)


-Added A H-Scene.
  -There are more animations in this scene than the first one added.
  -Created a dick just for this.


Currently Playable:
-The entire basis for the prologue
-Some improved customization (not final)
-2nd H-scene with proper camera conrtols.
-Most of the story for the prologue.
-Basic movement.


Known Issuses:
-Specularity has not been set properly, which is why the excess shinyness.
-I have been wrestling with Humanoid mecanim, it keeps fucking with my animations, as such the animations in game does not fully represent the original quality.
-You might loose some frames when walking if you sweet spot the camera towards a wall making it spazz, I'll figure out a better way to adjust the camera away from walls in the future.
-The clothes will most likely go through itself or the body slightly, I tried to clean out most of them.
-The dialogue pose animations do not change quickly enough.


Planned:
-I'm a bit torn on what to do next. On one hand I achieved my goal of creating a basic prologue to introduce the story and some of the potential aspects of the game. This was so that I would have the oppurtunity to start on the main game (continuation with more gameplay focus). On the other hand I was thinking about polishing/finishing the prologue a bit more up so that it is more presentable.

  1. Saw you're post on /hgg/, figured I'd leave remarks here.
    Not much to say with this build. (also note I honestly didnt bother reading dialogue)

    - Personally not a fan of the character model, I imagine you'll work on it though. Also shaders need improvement (that skin shader and why are clothes shiny?).
    - Customization needs to be more in depth (I imagine that's planned), hopefully loli body will be possible as well as long hair.
    - Pointless, but let us choose character name, if you're letting us customize char you might as well. It's also easy to implement assuming you designed the dialogue system correctly.
    - Clothing customization, again I assume it's planned. But for simple additions (don't need new models, just textures) that go with uniform; spats, stockings, thigh highs, swimsuit.
    - UI; You seem to be using Unity's legacy UI (OnGUI), you need to stop, switch the the proper new system. Old system became obsolete for various reasons (shitty performance, poorly designed etc), you simply cannot continue using it (Personally I don't even use it for debugging UI stuff anymore, it's just that bad).
    - Fetishes; (this is just stuff I personally like and not even necessarily appropriate in the games context) Loli, futa, urination, humiliation, yuri, reverse rape, outdoor exposure, bukkake
    - Have overlay textures for player being covered in semen
    - If possible try to give player real freedom in what they do with MC (avoidable rape, can keep virgin if you actually want, or can just choose to turn her into a slut etc)
    - Have NPC actually react to state of player (naked, semen covered, slutty clothes, aroused etc)
    - Making modding easy for idiots, have ingame file importer

    - BUGS; the color picker seems to break when switching tabs/modes/options. (Like set eye color, click hair, try to change it and nothing happens, click skin then suddenly hair and skin a black)

    Regarding this Site & Patreon page;
    - Banner is terrible, it needs to be replaced, it'll actually deter people from your site
    - Having a patreon page is not cool at this stage, you have no real content to offer. There are way to many western erotic game devs scamming people and you currently look like one of them.
    - Patreon link on blog; do not directly link to paying, link to the patreon page.
    - Patreon Page Desc/blurb/summary; INCLUDE PICTURES seriously, how else are you going to get supporters. Include a list of fetishes you plan to include. Do not block images/previews behind paywall, your just making it harder for potential supporters to be interested. If you want to pay wall something just make it early access to builds and some extra content.
    - Have a static page on this blog which is linked at top which gives summary of game (can just be c&p of above from Patreon)


    What you should do next; focus on back end first, make sure it's robust and all ready for future features. Nows the time since you don't have to worry about idiotic patreon supporters who don't understand it's importance. Also if your actually a competent programmer and design it properly then that puts you way ahead of the majority of weg patreon devs.


    Anyway that's some quick random remarks. Hopefully helps a little. Personally I don't find this project that interesting at the moment (overall sounds a little bland if it's just going to be prostitution because she's too dumb to think of alternatives), so I can't promise I'll provide feedback on any future builds.

    1. Thank you very much for taking your time into writing such a detailed comment. I will take all of this to heart as I've truly felt somewhat defeated lately not knowing what I'm doing wrong. Now onto the content of your post.

      Character model:
      Could you specifiy what you don't like about the model? I'm not sure if you're coming from a technical, aesthetic, or fetish point of view.

      Shaders:
      This is my first time actually looking into the code for shaders. I know how to deal with the shinyness.

      Customization:
      Customization is Indeed planned to be more in-depth, the way it is now is more as a proof of intent. I'm trying to figure out a way to have body sliders, but that is probably a bit far off right now.

      Player Name:
      I actually have the variable and logic ready, Just have to take the time to make the input field for the player.

      GUI:
      I'm using OnGUI because that's what I was taught, I fully understand it and can work fast with it. I intend to change over, just got to unlearn what I know first.

      Fetishes:
      As for fetishes. I have already had thoughts on how to implement all the ones you mentioned in the world of the game. Hell, the first thing I thought after making the dick was if I should use it for futa stuff later. I generally have a very open mind towards most fetishes so it won't really be a problem.

      Sperm:
      For the sperm. I was trying to figure out a better way to do this than the fairy powder bullshit "Sexy beach premium resort" pulled with particle effects. Thanks for the advice about overlay textures.

      Player Control:
      I want real agency for the player too. It pisses me off when I have no agency in games I play myself.

      Reacting Npcs:
      Noted, but will probably be a few releases out there. My original plan for the game would have you changing between the school uniform and rags, essentially creating two personas for the character. The school uniform would be valuable to you, and you would want to avoid dirtying it.

      Modding:
      The ability to add your own textures was my way of showing that I'm taking a step towards that.

      Bug color picker:
      I'm aware, but thanks.

      Banner:
      It was a quick a dirty thing. I will replace it, thanks.

      Patreon:
      I'm a regular over at /hgg/ & /hgg2d/ I'm pretty familiar with shit pulled in the past like Chink and ILL and other never evers. All I can say is that I intend on finishing the game. I use unity and my own model to distance myself from the scam stuff. Not sure what else I can do.

      You're right, I just copied one of the premade buttons from patreon onto the site to save time. I'll change to go to the main page instead.

      Patreon page:
      I held off putting up pictures because I wanted the game to look better first. I'll add some in, and just update them as stuff starts looking better, since what you're saying makes sense. I'll add in fetishes in the description. I don't really have a focus and I don't oppose much, so I guess I'll put up a few just to show I'm willing.

      The paywall post was misguided, I regret doing it, especially this early.

      I will add an about page to this blog, good call I totally forgot.

      Next focus:
      I've usually been torn between backend stuff and events. As a result most of the backend stuff is not modular and mostly just proof of intent. I want to change that and now is indeed a good chance to do it.

      End thoughts:
      I can assure you that prostitution is not going to be the only thing. As I've mentioned I've not been good at informing about my intent to incorporate other fetishes.

      I want you to know that this post basically made my day. I felt like absolute shit before seing it. Thank you very much again for taking your time writing such a detailed comment. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and I aim to make a more interesting game for the next release.

    I'm one of the many that prefer 2D over 3D and very rarely find an appealing 3D art style. I can't really tell you how to improve the model, instead I can tell you personally I find MiMiaCute's (aka Potato Mine) style to be one of the best. There's also Mantis-X (though he has a same face issue). Neither are perfect but I still consider them both to be '3D done right'.

    >Banner & Promo Images
    You could commission someone to draw something for a banner, since it is something people see first and as long as they get to see proper screenshots below then it's reasonable. Similarly you could have them do concept sketches showing alt outfits, mockup ingame UI etc. Then you have something for your patreon page. (Although I frankly have no idea how much that could cost, though if your lucky maybe you could convince some to do it for free, though you'd really have to sell your game idea to them)



    >Events
    Honestly I find it a little hard to think of any in the context (a normal female lead trying to make money), but whatever here's some random not well thought out ideas for scenarios.
    - Drug trials for things with erotic effects; Turned into futa, constant arousal for several hours (during school), incontinence etc (Gives justification for various fetishes and can have a cliche mad scientist for fun)
    - Being a "pet" for a rich girl/classmate; humiliation (Like maybe ordering you to go to school panty-less) etc
    - Helping a hypnotist practise their skills (On grounds MC thinks it wont work, but of coarse you know how the cliche scenario goes), if you want a school focus it could be someone from the schools supernatural/mystery/occult club


    Also you mention 'Previous experience is rather broad' (Patreon summary), how about linking to it if possible; Game jam entries, itch.io page or whatever. (I'm assuming you've worked on a game, even if it was just a uni project)
    It'll help demonstrate you're serious and give people more reason to trust you. Actually that summary could have slightly nicer formatting, like clear headings (Plot, Content/Fetishes, Gameplay, About Me/Dev etc, bold text or even fancy image headings, or just turn the entire summary into a fancy infographic since it'd stand out).
    AH and don't forget a link to latest build at/near top of summary, so people don't need to search through posts. Same for blog, in top/side bar have link to most recent build (Or sticky the release post).

      The model:
      Those you linked are pretty talented, most likely specialists. Even if it's probably prerendered, this is still valuable, I'll use it as a reference to improve my own models. I believe the shaders and the exaggerated animations helps those examples immensely.

      Banner And Promo:
      I'm a bit tight on money, but I might do that for the future. I did however put up a new banner that I worked on myself yesterday, do you think it will be sufficient for now? I Tried to display some fetishes.

      Events:
      Good examples, pretty close to what I already have thought of, except for the hypnotisist, I didn't think of that.

      I have other things in mind too. Here's one: a Secret Succubus that trades curses/buffs for money. You can take on a curse to gain a bit of money, or buy a buff to unlock some new scenes or customization options.

      It might be a modern setting, but that doesn't mean I don't plan on having some fantasy stuff here and there. I should probably convey that better in the game description.

      Previous experience:
      I would fucking love to share, but that would compromise my Identity and the people I've previously worked with. In an ideal world this wouldn't be a problem.

      Banner
      It's definitely an improvement, but should have some minor changes. The font needs to swapped for something else. Maybe something that sort or gives off a 'poor' feeling, like a patchwork style thing? Or even just a sketchy style that matches how you've done the character.
      The minor asymmetry is triggering my OCD (the circle halves aren't same size, the moon & sun are also not same size).
      The circle being cut directly down middle is slightly boring, though overused, the yinyang symbol could be alright. Else maybe make it jagged edge with some fragments coming off or like alien tendrils, as if symbolizing that the night side is encroaching onto the day side.
      I know you are showing some fetishes but honestly they're a little hard to identify, especially on the smaller blog sized version (Futa, preganancy, slutty clothing, womb tat, nipple piercing, chocker (slavery?, if so then it needs a leash), lip/nose piercing?, face scar?). Maybe you could make use of the white-space and fill it with very faint/transparent text or symbols for fetishes?. Well, just try a few things and see if it works.

      Events
      Well if you're fine with including some fantasy/scifi stuff then that gives a lot more freedom.


      Actually something important I guess I overlooked, the name 'Poor-chan' is not exactly ideal (Too simple, not searchable, honorific in western game). It's also somewhat cringe-worth (though no where near as bad Yandere Sim and it's dev). It's obviously fine if you refer to the nameable protagonist as 'poor-chan' in posts for convenience, but you should probably think up a proper game title.


      Also extra feedback/suggestions I forgot for previous posts;
      Customization
      - Preset Colors; Include a set of normal colors for each category (it's often hard to actually get just right, so this saves people time). Examples;
      -- Skin; albino, pale, olive, chocolate etc
      -- Eyes; Blue, Green, Brown etc
      - Let us orbit and pan with the camera so we can get a better look at character

      Some default skins/alternate textures to include; Swimsuit tan (one piece & bikini variants), pubic hair, scars, tattoos (womb tat), "body grafitti" (meat toilet stuff)



      Offtopic, but this post text editor really is a pain, too small (I know I can stretch it, but it's limited by the outer div size) and doesn't seem to allow for any formatting (bold and bullet points).

      Offcenter, guess you caught me on that (I'll fix it don't worry). The tendril moving towards daylife thing is actually pretty cool, I might do that. As for the font, I originally had this in mind: http://imgur.com/vWg9Nyg
      But I ditched it thinking it might come of as cringy, was I correct in thinking so?

      I was actually planning on doing as you said with the white space. I wanted to keep the simplistic nature of the character, so the icons should make up for it. Just got to get to adding them. And then there's the question of what to put in the black space. As you say trial and error at this point.

      Game Name:
      The "-" is a compromise on this blog really. For the name I wanted it to be simple and easy to remember. I didn't think of "chan" as cringe, I would assume people are Jaded by it, considering 4chan etc. It not being searchable is a valid issue, even so I'm inclined towards keeping it, at least for now.

      Color picker:
      I believe the function is there already, just have to set them.

      Orbit:
      I think I forgot to uncomment the horizontal panning in the latest build. I'll make sure it works for the next build.

      Textures:
      Good suggestions. Although I got to work a bit on the main texture and shaders first. The clothes doesn't even have proper textures yet.

      Text editor:
      I completely agree. I'll check if some other option premade options for this blog.

    Yeah, I guess that font may have been a bit much. A sketchy or hand written style font should be fine if something too "showy" just doesn't work.
    I was actually thinking the blackspace could be used same way as the whitespace (with fetish stuff), but if you'd prefer to keep that side "pure"/uncorrupted, then making it show normal school/student stuff (Studying, sports, clubs, friendship, playing, music, games etc).

    You also might want to change your blog profile image with the sketchy char (just head and shoulders, like you have it now) from banner, it'll look a little better in my opinion, especially for the smaller size version used with these comments. Though if you fix the shininess of the materials/shaders and retake the shot then that'd be fine too.

    Textures
    Also don't forget it make the default textures available in the "mod folder" so people can easily grab and edit them.


    Text Editor
    The width helps, though it's messing with the displayed comments now. Also just noticed it seems to support html bold tag (Though how have to manually type it in). I guess this really it wasn't really intended for "thorough" comments.

    1. Ah, right tiny thing I forgot. Until you switch the UI over to new system, the quick improvement you can do is change the GUI Style/skin. The default one just looks tacky and is something people associate with bad/low effort Unity games. I'd suggest a flat UI style (EX recent Battlefield games) it's easy to do and looks good [in my opinion]. (color ref; http://flatuicolors.com )

      That's a really good idea. I like the idea of displaying the many expectations people may have of "Poor Chan" as part of the black(day) side. It makes me think that when I add the small icons, if I should reverse the character used for each side? As if to say the duality makes her too dirty for the expectations set for her, and too pure for the fetishist tasks required during the night. Then again, keeping it as it is now with the added icons would cement her commitment towards the double life she's leading. Either works probably.

      Profile Picture:
      I should probably use the lighter one then to complement the darker theme of this blog.


      Textures
      That was the plan, Together with Transparent UI maps for ease of use.


      Text Editor:
      I checked a bit and it supports some basic html stuff like Italics and bold. I could choose to have the comment section become a pop up window, but it looks pretty ugly. It's easier to write long things, but I think it might deter people in the future. Also the fact that I can't edit my comments is infuriating. If I can, I might end up replacing the whole thing in the far future, I just don't want to spend too much time on it now.


      GUI:
      Thanks for showing me that site, it really helps.


      I'm really thankfull for your comments. I usually sit trapped inside my own mind working on the game. Having a dialogue about the game is really helping, both with motivation and the creative process.
